Why emailing contracts is killing your deals

self care sunday wiltw Feb 15, 2020

When I was in my real estate office, there was one thing I loved to hear over the intercom more than anything else.

"Jasen, you have a client in the lobby."

Ahhh...music to my ears and a boost to my ego. Especially when it happened multiple times a day

Agents who regularly had clients in the office were always the top producers.

These days, rather than meet people in person, contracts are emailed without second thought in the name of convenience and it's killing your deals!

Not a week goes by that I don't work with someone to clean up a situation that could have been prevented if they stopped trying to move so damn fast

Just because you can do certain things with technology doesn't always mean you should

Before you email that next contract or listing agreement, watch this week's vlog...

How to be a detail oriented person

inspiration Feb 14, 2020

Happy Valentine’s Day 2020! Walking around Santa Barbara is like being in a floral shop. Birds of Paradise grow abundantly in the weeds. I know just enough about photography to be certain of two things: I love it and I have an enormous amount to learn.

When I took the shots below, I wasn’t thinking of posting them on Instagram or anywhere else today. In fact, I was on a totally different mission. I was doing an exercise to strengthen my coaching skills. The goal was to walk around and consciously look for detail in my environment I wouldn’t normally notice and I chose  to do that in the park. There are lush flower gardens everywhere you turn in this town and in fewer than six months, I’ve already become desensitized to the stunning beauty. I wanted to slow down and really see the detail around me.

Here’s why:

To serve at a high level, a coach must be able to see detail others do not. In coaching, when that happens...

How to keep your marketing out of the spam folder

self care sunday wiltw Feb 08, 2020

Occasionally, I'll get a call asking for help because the person has unintentionally done something that has angered their client.

To help them gain perspective, I'll tell them about the time I managed to piss off every client and prospect I ever had in a matter of 15 minutes. I accidentally sent over 1000 emails to every person in my database in that short period of time. Can you even imagine?

It's a pretty funny story and in the vlog this week, I share what happened and how I handled it. It leads us into a story about how to keep your own email marketing practices clean.

For the positive mindset doubters

self care sunday wiltw Feb 01, 2020

“You get what you think about whether you want it or not.” -Abraham-Hicks

That’s my all time favorite quote about mindset. But when I first heard it in 2003, it’s implication terrified me. For a while I became paranoid about each though I had!

In the years since, I’ve gained a much better understanding of how to deliberately create the life I desire by using thoughts to set my mind. In fact, these days coaching people to “set their mind” has become a huge part of my work.

So this week, when Michigan State University tried to claim growth based mindset programs were ineffective, I had to clap back. Check out my response to the university in this week’s vlog...

Sleeping Your Way To Success

self care sunday wiltw Jan 25, 2020

Many years ago, I recommended a student sleep her way to success. Now get your mind out of the gutter...this isn't Hollywood! I didn't literally tell her that, but looking back, that's the advice I effectively gave her.

walked out of that session feeling silly and wondered what in the world possessed me to say such a thing. So, when I saw her the next week, you can imagine my surprise when she ran up and gave me a huge hug! What I told her had an immediate positive effect

This week I learned the coaching I gave her is backed up by science! Go figure!

Watch the video and I'll explain...

First Life Prunes You, Then You Bloom

self care sunday wiltw Jan 18, 2020

"Hey Jasen! How's California?"

I've been getting that question a lot lately and the answer is FANTASTIC! I love living in California!

found a charming house that is in a quiet part of downtown, near the historic Mission, and 5 minutes from the beach. The food from the farmer's market is incredible and I've found renewed inspiration for my career that I doubt I'd have found if I stayed in Austin.

But truth be told, the last four years haven't been easy. When I walked into Mission Park with Chug earlier this week, I saw something I didn't expect and felt inspired to record a video about some of the challenges I've faced

I almost didn't send it because, well, who doesn't have challenges?!  But then there was the voice of the renewed inspiration saying, "the world needs fewer coaches acting like a celebrity while pretending they've got...

Sleep and why my Thursday coaching sessions were nuts

self care sunday wiltw Jan 11, 2020

It's been several years since I traveled to multiple cities each week to speak to salespeople and one thing I'm really looking forward to is getting back on the road in 2020.

I won't be going to a different city every day but thanks to a book recommendation by Bill Gates, I now know why in the past, my Thursday sessions were nuts.

In fact, what I learned this week, when added to last week, stacks up to some powerful ammunition for the self-employed person to gain positive control of their health, career and start living their best life. That's what 2020 is about, right? Okay then...click play!

Sales Coaching is Life Coaching

self care sunday wiltw Jan 04, 2020

Almost immediately when I began work as a sales coach, I learned that working with self-employed business owners required me to be prepared to discuss much more than sales.

That's because on a daily basis being self-employed and selling your services exposes you to rejection and brings to the surface fears that are typically shielded by an employer.

So I had to plunge deep into growth mode and stay there if I intended to serve as a coach on a high level. I learned it was a requirement of my profession to constantly seek out new things to learn on a broad range of topics and work to connect the dots in fresh ways. And long before life coaching was a common thing, I was doing exactly that.

That's why I'm shifting the focus of these Sunday videos. We're going to transform together and go WAY BEYOND sales.

Watch the video and I'll explain...

Resolutions are for rookies. Manifest your 2020 goals easier.

self care sunday Dec 28, 2019

On January 15, 2014 I read a letter from Dr. Wayne Dyer that forever changed the way I set goals. In fact, his advice altered the way I manifest everything in life and once I wrapped my own mind around what was happening, I added his guidance to the work I was doing with my own coaching students. They began hitting their goals faster and told me it felt like it was taking much less effort.

So, do you have a goal for 2020? Want to learn what Dr. Dyer taught me and what has worked so well for my past studentsClick to watch this week's video and you'll come away with a whole new perspective for the new year.
